Company description:: Local fencers from the Cheyenne Fencing Society and Modern Pentathlon Center (CFSMPC), triumph at the Junior Olympics Fencing competition in Cleveland, Ohio February 13-16. Over a thousand fencers from all over the country gathered together for fierce dueling in epee (“epp-pay”), foil and sabre competitions. The sport of fencing is fast and athletic, a far cry from the choreographed bouts you see on films or on the stage. The movement is so fast the touches are scored electrically.
Local Epee fencers from CPSMPC included: Zachariah Cheris, Alex Duncan, Lawton Iowa, Remington Iowa, Clayton Kenney, Duncan Kenney, Chris Pfarr (Highlands Ranch), Collin Sullivan, Alex Visser, Brianna Ferrara and Elaine Huspeni.
Many of the men fencer’s competed in both the Cadet (under 17) and Junior’s (under 20) epee.
Clayton Kenney finished 7th in Junior’s and 9th in Cadet; Lawton Iowa finished 51st and 25th ; Zachariah Cheris finished 91st and 44th, Duncan Kenney finished 29th and 66th respectively.
Remington Iowa finished 30th and Collin Sullivan finished 40th in Juniors. Alex Duncan finished 45th and Chris Pfarr finished 118th in Cadet. Over 175 fencers competed in each event.
The ladies also competed in Cleveland. Representing CFSMPC was Brianna Ferrara who placed 40th in Junior Epee and Elaine Huspeni who finished 49th in Cadet Epee.
Foil, epee and sabre are the three weapons used in the sport of fencing. Foil and epee are point-thrusting weapons. Sabre is a point-thrusting as well as a cutting weapon.
